What to do if your new mattress doesn’t work for you

As we all know, the process of shopping for a new mattress can come with different struggles for everyone. There is not only one perfect way to shop for a mattress for everyone, but we recently wrote a blog post about how to shop in-person at a mattress store. The tips in that post should serve you well and help you pick the perfect mattress for your unique sleep needs. But even if you use our tips, shop well, and choose the mattress that you think will be perfect for you, there is still a chance that the new mattress doesn’t work for you when you actually get it home and sleep on it.

At Mattress Warehouse, we understand that not every mattress that someone chooses will be perfect for them. With that being the case, we have some tips that will help you fix this problem and allow you to become satisfied with your new mattress. Here are our tips on what to do when your new mattress doesn’t work for you.

Tips for getting the right mattress

Be patient with the mattress

When you buy something brand-new, it is likely that it will need some time to become fully comfortable. If you are having problems with your new mattress after only a few days, we recommend giving it at least a few weeks of nightly use so that it can fully break-in. Usually, it is normal for mattresses to take some time to become broken in and comfortable, so discomfort is not unusual. However, if your new mattress is causing you extreme pain upon sleeping on it for any number of nights, take it back to the store and explain this to your salesperson.

Evaluate your setup

If you are not ready to give up on your new mattress yet, you should evaluate your bed setup. Believe it or not, the kind of base that your mattress sits on is very important to how comfortable it will actually be. Some mattresses need a box spring and a special type of base, while others simply need a basic metal or wood frame. This means that the equipment that you have been using for your old mattress may need to be replaced with something new in order to get the best out of your new mattress. We also recommend checking any equipment that you are going to use for damage, as this can be a potential safety hazard and lower your comfort level.

Be honest with yourself

Depending on the kind of person that you are, you might not want to ever give up when your new mattress doesn’t work. Some people may see it as being defeated if they have to exchange their new purchase for something else. They may end up sticking it out for so long that they begin resenting their mattress and bed in general. This could not be further from the truth, because you should know how important it is to sleep in comfort every night. If your mattress is not doing the correct job for you and helping you sleep well, there is no shame in coming into our store and exchanging it for a different one.

Visit the store you bought it from

If all else fails and you are ready to do something when your new mattress doesn’t work, bring it back to the store that you bought it from (hopefully Mattress Warehouse). Once you bring it back, you should talk to a salesperson and explain the problems you are having in detail. The salesperson will then do their best to help get you into the proper mattress for you.

When you buy a mattress from Mattress Warehouse, it comes with our 120-day comfort guarantee! We offer this guarantee because we love our customers and know that it can take your body up to 4-6 weeks to adjust to a new mattress. Be sure to take this into consideration as you are making your mattress buying decision! We would love to meet you and help you pick the perfect mattress today, so come visit us at any of our locations.
